    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the evaluation of the patient’s spiritual needs and provides counseling services to the patient and or family/caregiver.
    • As a member of the interdisciplinary team participates in the development of the plan of care.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum bachelor degree in counseling, psychology, or social work from an accredited college or university, and who has one year of counseling experience in a health care setting; or a religious professional( theologically trained lay person or clergy) who has a combination of documented formal training in pastoral counseling and supervised counseling experience in a health care setting
    • A total of academic and supervised work experience should equal at least five years
    • Ability to work collegially as a member of an interdisciplinary team and with people of a wide variety of faith and belief systems
    • Knowledge and skill in dealing with spiritual diagnoses of illness, loss and death
    • Knowledge of applying spiritual needs and comfort to people of many faiths, some knowledge of what is important in other faiths
    • Must be able to read, speak and understand the English language
